New Year in the UK?

December 2018

Christmas is upon us and inevitably so is the New Year. Some peole like to have a cosy night in and some people like to have small family celebrations but may people around the world like to come together to celebrate the New Year. Why not make the UK your destinationn to join the crowds in the New Year celebrations?

One of the most famous locations for New Year's celebrations is London. Tragalgar Square used to be the main venue for this but the crowds now head to the South Bank close to the London Eye to watch the brilliant fireworks display. Tickets can be obtained to view from the London Eye or if you want a cheaper option wander down to Westminster Bridge and watch the fireworks from there. The display begins after Big Ben has chimed midnight. Many restaurants put on special evenings with food wine and music for this special evening. If romance is what you are looking for take a luxury river cruise on the Thames and watch the display from a mooring close to the London Eye.

If you prefer to be further north in the UK head to Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, which has a famous three day Hogmanay extravaganza. This kicks off with a Viking-type torchlight procession along the Royal Mile on the 30th December. On New Year's eve a Concert in the Gardens starts the evenings events, this year headlined by Franz Ferdinand. The concert wrpas up in time for gig-goers to catch the views of the fireworks display over Edinburgh Castle. Once the fireworks end a street party continues with dancing well into 2019!

With New Year comes New Year's resolutions. Why not make yours to visit the UK and combine it with a resolution to get fit or eat healthily? Make the challenge of getting fit more fun by joining a charity event in the UK, for example the BHF lakes/peaks challenge or the Edinburgh half marathon festival for MacMillan cancer support in May 2019. If running is not for you how about the great north swim in June 2019 in Lake Windermere for Mind, a better mental health charity.

Healthy eatring is becoming more and more popular and the UK is a great destination to find healthy foods. Try the Tennent' story experience at Wellpark Brewery and learn about the 130 year history of this brewery or try the Food Festivals in Clitheroe or Cornwall. The International Cheese Show in Natnwich, Cheshire offers a tasting opportunity for all those cheese lovers. The UK's cheeses are winning awards worldwide and this is an opportunity to find out which you prefer. Try the Brisith aspargus festival of the Cromer lobster festival for a taste of something different!

Whatever your New Year plans are there is room for a visit to the UK, a destination with lots to offer and a wide variety of experiences whether you visit the city or the countryside.
